Vevo Break Monthly Record

Music video streaming service Vevo says that it has recorded over 10 billion monthly views for the first time ever. It clocked 10,335,997,898 views in January, a stunning 86% increase on figures for the previous January, when 5.4 billion views occurred. The company says that 49.5% of January’s views came from mobile devices and televisions.

23 videos have now been “Vevo CERTIFIED”, meaning that they have clocked up over 100 million views. 2 billion of January’s views came from the US, a rise of 1.2 billion year-on-year. Mariah Carey was one of the first artists to amass more than a billion views on the service.

Vevo is a joint venture between major labels including Sony and Universal as well as Google and Abu Dhabi Media. It launched in December 2009. Google and Vevo share the advertising revenue from the videos. It is missing music from the third of the “big three” record labels, Warner Music Group. EMI had also licensed its music views to the service before it was bought by Universal. However, Warner chose to partner with MTV Networks rather than Vevo.
