Video Shows Alleged Display and Battery for Apple Watch 2

The UK-based repair parts seller Byte has posted a new video in which it claims to show the display, battery and Force Touch gasket for the reportedly upcoming second generation Apple Watch.

In the video, these components are helpfully shown alongside the equivalent parts of the currently available Apple Watch, and this provides a degree of insight into how Apple might have tinkered with the internals for the follow-up wearable expected to be formally unveiled on Wednesday.

While the Apple Watch 2’s display does appear slightly thinner than the first model’s here, MacRumors points out that the newer timepiece could actually still match its predecessor in thickness, as Apple looks likely to put in several new and upgraded internal components.

Those parts could include the pictured battery, which is rated for 1.28 watt-hours. As this video is supposedly showing us parts for a 42mm Apple Watch 2, this battery – should it be authentic – will be 334 mAh, making it 35.7% larger than the first 42mm model’s 246 mAh battery.

The new Force Touch gasket is less remarkable, showing no clear differences other than a new chip alignment. It remains unclear, then, whether – as rumor has suggested – the Apple Watch 2 will be noticeably thinner than the current model. Not that the mystery should linger for much longer…
