Apple introduced the Vision Pro, its first foray into spatial computing, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023. This revolutionary product operates on visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system. This ground-breaking technology allows users to interact with 3D digital content in their physical environments using an innovative input system that involves eye movements, hand gestures, and voice commands.

Ahead of Vision Pro’s launch in early 2024, Apple released a visionOS software development kit (SDK) to developers, encouraging them to create unparalleled 3D experiences for users. Additionally, Apple provided previews of 3D apps and games designed to take full advantage of Vision Pro and visionOS’s powerful capabilities.

The WWDC 2023 keynote showcased the impressive features of Vision Pro, including the ability to transform any space into a 3D movie theater, capture 3D photos and videos for future reminiscing, and control the user interface (UI) through eye and hand movements.

Beyond these inherent capabilities, Apple also previewed third-party apps that harness the device’s innovative technology and the power of the visionOS SDK and APIs. These apps offer solutions with the potential to revolutionize various industries.

Jan Herzhoff, President of Elsevier Health, created the Complete HeartX app for Vision Pro, a tool specifically designed for medical students. This app utilizes hyper-realistic 3D models and animations of the human heart to aid understanding of medical issues such as ventricular fibrillation and to assist patients.
