We’re expecting Apple to release an updated version of the highest-specification Mac mini at some point this year – potentially as soon as its Spring Event, which is rumored to be taking place in March 2022. This new launch will complete the Apple silicon transition for the entire Mac mini lineup.
Right now, we don’t know exactly what the new Mac mini will look like, just that Apple is reportedly set to significantly change its design.
There has been speculation that the design will have a plexiglass-like top sitting above the aluminum enclosure, and that the device’s overall size could be smaller than the present Mac mini.
We also don’t yet know for sure about any color options. However, it has been suggested that the Cupertino firm could take a cue from the 24-inch iMac in offering the Mac mini in a broader range of colors than just space gray and silver.
In terms of ports, we are expecting to see four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A ports, an Ethernet port, and a HDMI port, as well as the same magnetic charging cable that the 24-inch iMac uses.
Looking ahead to later in 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently suggested in his Power On newsletter that Apple is getting ready to launch no fewer than four Macs incorporating the faster M2 chip over the course of the year. A new entry-level Mac mini is also in the rumored lineup.
Apple’s 2022 launch schedule, then, seems to be moving at Macs-imum speed.
