WhatsApp introduces feature that allows users to transfer chats

Messages apps

WhatsApp has confirmed a new feature that allows users to transfer chats from iOS to Android.

Consumers have always struggled with WhatsApp when transferring from one operating system to another, as chats, pictures, and other media could not be transferred from iOS to Android and vice versa, despite WhatsApp allowing users to back up their conversations and restore them.

WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, has now confirmed that users can transfer chats between the two.

The messaging app, which has billions of users around the world, took to the stage at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event to announce the feature, confirming that it had been difficult to offer the feature because of end-to-end encryption. However, it appears those issues have now been ironed out, and WhatsApp users can transfer their data and messages between platforms.

WhatsApp revealed that the new feature would be available exclusively on Android devices at first, specifically Samsung phones, but that it would come to other devices. The firm is yet to reveal exactly when iOS users will have access, but it’s likely to roll out in the months ahead.
