It’s fair to say that, when Ben Affleck was first announced to be pulling on the Dark Knight’s black cape for the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, not many people were thinking that Christian Bale’s acclaimed performances in the same role were set to become a fading memory. However, Affleck could yet take us all by surprise upon the film’s release next year…
There are parallels to be drawn here between director Zack Snyder’s nod for Affleck and, believe it or not, the casting of Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight, the most well-received of Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. The young Ledger had initially seemed a peculiar choice to play the evil clown; however, his performance banished doubts left, right and centre, to the extent that his live action portrayal of the Joker is now considered one of the best ever.
Could Affleck similarly prove his critics wrong when Dawn of Justice hits theaters? Of course, we won’t know for definite until we see the movie, but we at AppleMagazine reckon that he could. To learn more about why we are so confident, you will have to read our major feature article about cinema in 2016, including Batman v Superman, in the current issue of AppleMagazine.
