Why don’t more games come to Mac?

If you are a Windows PCs user, you can play as many games as you want. But Mac users do not have this liberty as most games that work on PC do not work on Mac. MacBook, Macbook Air, and Macbook Pro have many advantages, such as simplicity of macOS, design, and user-friendly interface, but these devices lag behind in gaming. If you are a pro-gamer, you might wonder if Mac is the right choice for you or not!

Is it possible to play games on Mac?

Mac is made up of the same hardware components as any other PC. It is just operating on a different operating system that limits the gaming experience on Mac. There is no hardware barrier as such. Mac does not lack any such magic gaming components that PC has.

However, Macs are not designed for gaming. Instead, they are designed for simplicity, creativity, and work efficiency. The graphics cards used in Mac that are essential to play games are not up to the mark, and at the same time, you do and have the choice to upgrade them either. That is what makes Mac a lousy computer for gaming. But, still, you can play games, not all of them of course, but enough of them.

Macs can never be as good for gaming as a custom-built Windows PC in the same price range. Windows provide better control and graphics. Windows PCs also have better graphic cards to enhance speed and support better resolution of modern PC games.

Modern games are missing, and that is a problem

The very reason Pro players would never recommend Mac for gaming is its inability to handle big games and lack of their availability at the Apple app store. Games such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Witcher 3, and Persona 4 are only released for Windows PCs, not Mac. If you want to play all these big games, you must purchase a Windows PC or build one.

Apple is continuously working to improve its metal framework to support more games. But it seems like a lot has to be done in this regard to take mac games to the next level. Apple must improve its relations with developers to provide users with a better Mac gaming experience.

Installing Windows on Mac can help

If you already have a Mac or Mac Pro, no need to spend money on another Windows-based gaming PC. If you own a Mac and still want to enhance your gaming experience, you can install Windows on it. You can easily install Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp. And if you are a serious gamer, it will be worth your time to set up Boot Camp.

You can install your Windows on a separate partition and switch between Windows and macOS whenever you want. By doing that, you will have a much wider variety of games to choose from and play.

Mac owners can save a lot of money and enjoy the experience of PC gaming with the addition of big-name games with little effort.

Apple’s plan to save Mac gaming

Mac is not a home to gaming and Apple seems not to make much effort to make things better in the future. It relies on Boot Camp to keep the gaming spirit alive on Mac devices. With the development of macOS, things seem to change. Furthermore, Apple is trying to solve the problem through Apple Arcade, but it is not the solution most Mac gamers are looking for.

Games often come late to Mac, and they are limited in number. Apple relies on third-party companies for these games rather than original companies that produce these games. It is at least accurate for top-of-the-line AAA games.

Why did game development get skipped on Mac?

Mac versions of games are not developed because there is a fraction of the overall PC market. It is difficult to make a business case for developing the Mac version of games due to a small number of users. Mac users that want to play games other than that of usual titles are tiny in number. Similar games on PC give more rewards to developers than on Mac.

Competition

Apple is also competing with its arch-rivals. These are the modern and state-of-the-art console gaming systems such as Xbox and Playstation. They have the latest software and hardware to support gaming. Players who want to live-stream games with popular titles prefer to use them. If Apple wants to dominate the gaming market and increase its market share, as it has great potential, it must do some heavy lifting in terms of software and hardware upgrades.

If you are among casual gamers, you can go for Mac, But if you are a Pro-Gamer, give it a second thought. The point is Apple does not design its devices for games. There is a small percentage of Mac users as compared to overall PC users in the world. This barrier also prevents companies from developing games for macOS and iOS.

Apple is planning to make things better for gamers. Some online casinos have even started catering for those who use iDevices to make things, even more, simpler with the introduction of apple pay casinos you not only get some of the best payouts but also the best games compatible with your ecosystem. But if you want a next-level gaming experience, it is better to jump to a Mac powered by the new-gen M1 Pro/Max chips or even build a dedicated PC desktop!
