Apple’s drastic decision to product iPhones without a headphone jack, continues to be met with outrage as the “dongle” adapter could be removed from the iPhone box. A new report from Barclays predicts that when the trio of new iPhones is released in the fall, they might not include a Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter.
The “dongle” has been included in the box of all iPhones since the iPhone 7 was released without a headphone jack in 2017. Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and his associates cannot yet say for certain if the “dongle” will definitely be removed from the box, however, they believe in May or June Apple will announce this change. Last year, Barclays accurately predicted Apple would include this adapter in the box when they released the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, so their latest prediction is taken very seriously. The analysts visit Apple’s supply chain partners in Asia to gather such information.
Users won’t be too affected by the change as Apple still sells this adapter as a standalone accessory, for the reasonable price of $9. Cirrus Logic, the supplier of audio-related components inside the adapter, are likely to be the most affected by the change.
