The steadily rising adoption of Windows 10 among desktop users accelerated in March, according to new figures published today by NetMarketShare. Microsoft’s latest flagship operating system now has a 14.15% slice of the market – though Windows 7 remains well ahead in usage.
Overall, Windows 10 saw a 1.33% gain during the month. As TechRadar notes, the system’s respective shares in January and February were 11.85% and 12.82%, a difference of just under 1%. There was, therefore, a sharp rise in the growth rate of Windows 10 usage during March – which suggests that Microsoft’s policy of offering the OS as a free update for Windows 7 and 8.1 users is continuing to pay off.
However, that free update offer will expire in late July – meaning that Windows 10 adoption could grow at an even speedier rate during the next four months. Right now, Windows 7 is still easily the desktop market leader, its share sitting at a massive 51.89%.
