Following much speculation about when Windows 10 Mobile will arrive for old Windows handsets, a VentureBeat report says that Microsoft will actually announce its same-day launch on March 17.
Citing only “a person familiar with the company’s plans”, the site says that users of devices eligible for the upgrade will initially need to download it manually. This will be a “pull model” rather than a “Microsoft-triggered push model”, which is apparently lined up for a later, undisclosed date.
The anonymous source further claims that the Nokia- and Microsoft-branded Lumia devices getting the update are a “closely guarded secret” and will not be revealed until an announcement tomorrow. It is unclear, then, whether the list of eligible devices will entirely match that previously published by Microsoft on the Windows 10 Mobile website.
