Retail availability of the Apple’s smaller and cheaper handset, the iPhone SE, has recently expanded to South Korea, following a preorder period beginning late last month.
The Chosunilbo reports local carriers SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus putting the 4-inch iPhone SE on sale today. Online preorders for the phone, which packs almost all of the technical marvels of the high-end iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus into a smaller enclosure, opened on April 28.
Though the iPhone SE has been referred to as a “budget” iPhone elsewhere, the handset is closer to mid-price in South Korea, the base 16GB model costing between 500,000 and 550,000 won and the 64GB version between 600,000 and 670,000 won.
It will be interesting to see how the iPhone SE fares in South Korea, given the still relatively low price for a recently-released iPhone and that the country is, of course, the native market of Apple’s arch rival in the smartphone market, Samsung.
Globally, the iPhone SE has been supply-constrained due to demand beyond Apple’s original expectations, but the company has recently ordered a sharply higher production volume.
