AI server manufacturers are actively seeking to secure orders from Apple as the tech giant prepares to launch new AI features with its next big software release, iOS 18. This anticipation follows a report from the Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, which highlights the efforts of companies like Supermicro.

Supermicro is notably expanding its operations to win AI-related orders from Apple, with aspirations to double its AI server shipments this year, leveraging relationships with current clients such as CoreWeave and Tesla.

A few months ago, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that Apple’s expenditure on servers to bolster its AI capabilities is expected to surge to approximately $4.75 billion in 2024, a significant increase from $620 million in 2023. This investment could translate into Apple acquiring up to 20,000 servers within the year.

The anticipation for Apple’s AI advancements is not limited to server manufacturers. Apple itself has been stoking excitement for its forthcoming AI features.

During the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the company is expected to showcase a variety of new AI functionalities as part of iOS 18 and other software updates.

At a recent annual shareholder meeting, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed enthusiasm for the future of generative AI at Apple, stating, “We believe it will unlock transformative opportunities for our users,” and hinting at the company’s commitment to “break new ground” in AI during 2024.
