While a full second-generation AirPods Max wasn’t released, the over-ear headphones received their first significant update since their debut in 2020.

One of the biggest changes is the long-awaited switch to USB-C, following the lead of the AirPods Pro 2. In addition, the Airpods Max 2 now features adaptive audio, a personalization feature originally introduced in the AirPods Pro.

The AirPods Max continues to stand out as one of the most colourful products in Apple’s line-up, maintaining its distinction from the rest of the family by not being offered in white. The updated Max is available in Midnight, Blue, Purple, Orange, and Starlight, offering various vibrant colour options.

Meanwhile, the AirPods Pro 2 hasn’t received any hardware upgrades, but a series of software updates aimed at hearing health have been rolled out.

These include three key features: prevention, awareness, and assistance. For example, AirPods Pro 2 can now act as earplugs at loud concerts, providing hearing protection. A new medically certified hearing test, which can be completed in five minutes, has also been introduced. After the test, users receive a report and a personalized audio profile based on their hearing capabilities.
