Having earlier predicted that only particular models of the iPhone 7 Plus would have a dual-lens camera, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has backtracked. One of the most reliable sources of news about future Apple products now says that all 5.5-inch models will have this feature.
In a note cited by 9to5Mac, Kuo adds that Apple will also include 3GB of RAM in the upcoming 5.5-inch iPhone – an increase from the 2GB of RAM in the iPhone 6S Plus – to meet needs of this new camera technology. Nonetheless, he has cautioned that, “due to constraints of form factor design, we think optical zoom capacity may be limited.”
The analyst has also referred to his company’s estimation that Sony and LG will soon start shipping dual-lens camera modules in sufficient numbers – 20-30 million units in the 2016 fiscal year – to cover demand for the next 5.5-inch iPhone. Though Kuo does not openly refer to it as such in his new note, this handset will presumably be called the iPhone 7 Plus.
