An “iPhone 7 Pro” is on the Way, Agrees New Chinese Report

Last week, a leaker from China claimed that Apple is about to introduce an “iPhone 7 Pro” that will sit just above the iPhone 7 Plus in price. Now, the Chinese site Wechat appears to concur.

A new report on the site suggests that Apple could bring out an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro – at a conference which, “according to the latest sources”, will take place “on or around September 9 [or] September 16”. A new Apple Watch will also appear at this event, adds Wechat.

The report lists 32GB, 128GB and 256GB as the storage tiers for the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. Here, the site actually differs from the earlier Chinese leaker – who, on social media site Weibo, said that the iPhone 7, unlike the other two purported handsets in the iPhone 7 series, would be released in 32GB, 64GB and 256GB variants.

9to5Mac has opined that a middle option of 128GB across the range is unlikely, as this could deter too many buyers from opting for the inevitably pricier 256GB model. We still reckon, however, that Apple might choose to keep the storage options at each level identical to prevent confusion, in line with its long-standing ethos of simplicity.
