Apple has revealed an updated version of the Mac mini, which will now be powered by the new M2 and M2 Pro chips.
These new chips offer increased performance, but the design of the Mac mini remains unchanged. The updated version will be available starting at $599, which is a lower price point than the previous generation.
The M2 chip was first introduced by Apple in June of 2021 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The M2 Pro and M2 Max chips have now been added to the lineup.
The M2 Pro chip brings professional-level performance to the Mac mini for the first time, with a 12-core CPU and a 19-core GPU. It also has double the memory bandwidth of the M2 chip, with 200GB/s, and supports up to 32GB of memory.
The M2 Pro-powered model is up to 14 times faster than the previous Mac mini with an Intel processor.
The design of the Mac mini remains the same, despite rumors of a redesign. However, models with the M2 Pro chip have access to four Thunderbolt 4 ports, while models with the M2 chip have access to only two.
Both versions of the Mac mini come with an ethernet port, HDMI port, two USB-A ports, and a headphone jack.
The new Mac mini with M2 and M2 Pro chips are available for pre-order and will begin shipping on January 24, 2022.
