Apple has announced that the 2022 edition of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC22) will take place from June 6 to June 10. The annual event will be delivered in an online format for the third year in a row, reflecting the continued disruption brought to the business world by the pandemic.
The information technology conference has been running since the 1980s, and WWDC22 promises to be another opportunity for Apple’s burgeoning global community of more than 30 million developers to access Apple engineers and technology, and to learn about the creation of apps and interactive experiences.
The event will be free to attend for all developers, and is also expected to give Apple a chance to show off updates to the operating systems for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.
Susan Prescott, vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations and Enterprise and Education Marketing at Apple, stated: “At its heart, WWDC has always been a forum to create connection and build community.
“In that spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from around the world to come together to explore how to bring their best ideas to life and push the envelope of what’s possible. We love connecting with our developers, and we hope all of our participants come away feeling energized by their experience.”
As well as the online conference, Apple has announced that it will hold a special day for developers and students at Apple Park on June 6, when they will be able to watch the keynote and the State of the Union videos together, along with the online community. Apple said it would shortly provide information via the Apple Developer site and app on how to apply for the limited available spaces to attend.
Finally, for the third year, Apple will also support students who love to code, with the Swift Student Challenge. It’s just one more reason to get excited about what could be in store at WWDC22 – not least as Apple will surely offer up a few surprises, too.
