Apple Partners with OpenAI for ChatGPT Integration in iOS 18 Without Monetary Exchange

ChatGPT on iOS 18

According to sources cited by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is not paying OpenAI for this collaboration.

Instead, Apple considers promoting OpenAI’s technology across its devices as equally valuable.

This exposure is expected to benefit both companies as Apple integrates ChatGPT to enhance Siri’s capabilities.

Despite no direct financial exchange, OpenAI might face increased operational costs due to the expected surge in Apple users accessing ChatGPT, demanding more computational resources.

Nevertheless, OpenAI could gain financially by attracting Apple users to its ChatGPT Plus subscription, priced at $20 per month. Apple could also benefit by receiving a commission on these subscriptions.

Apple plans to further monetize artificial intelligence (AI) by sharing revenue with its partners. The company is in discussions to offer Google’s Gemini chatbot as an additional option, aiming to finalize the deal later this year. Apple intends to earn a share of the revenue from chatbot interactions on its platforms, anticipating that users will increasingly turn to AI over traditional search engines.

This shift could potentially reduce Apple’s dependence on its profitable search deal with Google.

The report also mentions that Apple has yet to secure a local Chinese partner for chatbot features but is considering companies like Baidu and Alibaba.

Initially, the new Apple Intelligence features will only support U.S. English, with plans to expand to more languages next year.
