Aiming to take its own slice of the hugely popular social networking pie, Apple is reportedly developing its own social media app which would allow users to quickly record, edit and share videos.
Of course, many iPhone users already regularly use their devices’ cameras to capture video before sharing it to networks like Facebook and Twitter. With Apple’s app, it will be possible to, Snapchat-style, apply filters, add doodles and make other edits to videos before sending them to friends.
In a report citing several anonymous sources, Bloomberg says that Apple is very much prioritizing ease-of-use; the app will include one-handed controls which should help users to make and upload videos “in less than 1 minute.” Ultimately, Apple is endeavoring to “remain relevant” with the younger iPhone users with whom Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Snapchat are very popular.
While Apple is thought to be currently planning to release this social network as its own app, the company might instead opt to integrate it directly with the stock iPhone Camera app. Apple hopes to debut the new app at some point next year; however, should it fail to meet Apple’s own expectations, it could still be abandoned, according to the Bloomberg report.
