Apple could be in the process of further evolving the technology of the 3D Touch interface introduced with the iPhone 6S, as reports suggest it is now testing “multi-touch 3D Touch” for the iPhone 7.
Citing a source from Chinese social media site Weibo, G For Games reports that Apple could be experimenting with “multi-Force Touch” for the iPhone 7. However, the latter site warns that while the source “has provided some good Apple-related reports in the past, it’s by no means a “certified” Apple insider.”
It does seem improbable that Apple would abandon 3D Touch for the less sophisticated Force Touch. However, in any case, 9to5Mac has suggested that bringing elements of Multi-Touch into either form of pressure-sensitive technology means that “you could press harder with two fingers to bring up different options than what appears when you press harder with one finger.”
Despite the suspect source, this kind of subtle evolution certainly seems in-keeping with traditional Apple strategy, 3D Touch itself having been a small but logical step further from the Force Touch interface earlier brought into the MacBook line and the Apple Watch.
