If you are fond of the digital media player Apple TV, good news: there could be a new version hitting the market soon. There has already been recent evidence to suggest that the Apple TV could get its first iteration since 2013 imminently, and we have noticed another hint in one of Apple’s own support documents.
The specific document that we refer to has the title ‘Set up and use HomeKit-enabled accessories with your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch’, and can be read through following this link. One section of the document, with the heading ‘Control your accessories away from home’, opens with: “If you have an Apple TV (3rd generation or later) with software version 7.0 or later, you can control your HomeKit-enabled accessories when you’re away from home using your iOS device.”
The reference to “Apple TV (3rd generation or later)” is telling, because the most recent version of the Apple TV is the revised third generation Apple TV that was released on January 28, 2013. So, no “or later” version of this digital media player exists. Judging from this little part of this document, however, it soon could – and late 2015 looks a likely time for any impending launch of a fourth generation Apple TV.
