Apple’s initiative is viewed as a continuation of its longstanding involvement in the region, which began in 1981 with a modest team dedicated to the Apple II project.
Today, the Singapore campus acts as a crucial hub for Apple in Asia, boasting a workforce that exceeds 3,600 employees, covering diverse roles in software, hardware, services, and customer support. Additionally, Singapore hosts three Apple Store locations.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “Singapore is truly a one-of-a-kind place, and we are proud of the connection we’ve built with this dynamic community of creators, learners, and dreamers.
“With our growing campus, Apple is writing a new chapter in our history here. Our Singapore teams have played an important role in enriching the lives of our customers — and we can’t wait for many more decades of innovation to come.”
The investment will enhance two existing buildings adjacent to Apple’s current facilities, integrating them into a unified campus designed to foster teamwork.
This expansion is part of a decade-long effort, which includes a 50% growth in the hardware technologies center since 2019.
The upgraded campus will operate solely on renewable energy and aims for LEED Gold certification, reflecting Apple’s global commitment to sustainability. The company has been carbon neutral concerning its corporate operations since 2020 and has been powered by 100% renewable energy since 2018.
Construction is slated to commence later this year. Apple’s presence in Singapore supports over 60,000 jobs through direct employment, its supply chain, and the iOS app economy. The company also collaborates with local educational institutions to promote innovation and technological advancement.
