Apple to Release “Deep Blue” iPhone 7 and Drop Space Gray?

A new report from the Japanese site Macotakara makes the dubious claim that the iPhone 7 might be made available in a new “Deep Blue” option which will “likely” replace Space Gray in the color line-up.

The site claims, on the basis of “reliable information from a Chinese supplier”, that Deep Blue will “probably” join the other color options of Silver, Gold and Rose Gold. Bizarrely, however, the “informed source” says that Space Gray will “highly likely” be dropped from these choices.

While it certainly seems plausible that Apple could add a further color option to drive excitement around what, according to rumor, is shaping up to be an incremental iPhone update in design and features, the neutral shade of Space Gray seems unlikely to get the chop given its continuing popularity.

Therefore, should Macotakara’s source really be as reliable as claimed, it is more likely that Apple will offer Deep Blue in addition to, not instead of, the Space Gray introduced with the iPhone 5S in 2013.
