BMW to Support Apple’s CarPlay with New Models in Late 2016

The German automaker BMW is finally preparing to launch vehicles that will support Apple’s in-dash platform CarPlay, judging from a price list recently spotted on BMW’s German website.

This price list, pointed out by Bimmerpost, cites upcoming new BMW X5 M and X6 M models as supporting CarPlay. The price list will come into force on August 1, and says that CarPlay support will be activated at an unspecified point in the second half of 2016.

The tech options alongside which CarPlay support is listed include mention of a 10.25-inch touchscreen LCD for both the X5 M and X6 M. This would allow for one of the largest native CarPlay interfaces.

Though Apple reportedly once considered a collaboration with BMW for its own electric car project, talks appear to have fallen by the wayside. The Cupertino firm has since forged a partnership with Chinese ride-hailing firm Didi Chuxing – we focus more on that venture in our new issue released today.
