Elon Musk has revealed that he reached out to Apple’s Tim Cook about acquiring Tesla.
According to Musk’s tweet, Cook “refused to take the meeting,” suggesting that Apple was not at the time interested in taking over the electric vehicle company, now worth $500 billion.
Elon was responding to a Reuters’ article about the possibility of Apple releasing its own electric car in 2024, as we have reported on right here on AppleMagazine.com.
During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1/10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting.

The company is reportedly planning to begin production on its own Apple-branded EV by 2024, and will use “next-level” battery technology to increase the range of the machine when compared with other electric vehicles. Musk responded by saying “strange if true”, and then divulged that he reached out to Apple about a potential acquisition during his “darkest days.”
It had previously been reported that Apple considered a bid of $240 per share for the company back in 2013, but the tweets from Musk suggest this might not be accurate. The two companies don’t have the best relationship – indeed, Apple has been at odds with Tesla having poached some of its senior engineers to work on its own Project Titan car project.
