A new Apple Watch challenge has launched in India to encourage users to buy the smartwatch and participate in fitness challenges, dubbed as the Get Active India initiative.
Exclusive to the territory, Get Active India is not only a personal fitness marker but designed to find out which city in the country is the fittest, running through to March 14 and designed to pit some of the country’s biggest cities together and create a healthier community, too.
As first reported by The Indian Express, the challenge was designed by Redington and Ingram, who distribute Apple Watch in the country, and uses the Challenges app to track users’ progress. When users enter the app, they can input a code and select a city to represent, allowing them to enter an Olympics-style challenge with neighboring Indian cities.
Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi are the cities currently available as part of the challenge, and users receive points for every hour they stand, up to a maximum of 14 per day. They’ll also earn up to 40 points per day for exercising and moving, offering Bronze, Silver, and Gold badges.
Apple has organized a number of Activity Challenges in recent years, but this is the first country-specific challenge to date. It could be part of a wider marketing push in India, or Apple could be trailing the idea of localized Apple Watch challenges.
