Keen to tap into the growing demand for electric-powered vehicles, manufacturers are readying the release of dozens of new models in the coming months.
Gas may be cheap and the economy might be unstable right now, but automakers are hedging their bets on new EVs which were designed for modern consumer life. The 2021 Mustang Mach-E crossover, for example, has four doors, with room for groceries, without compromising on style or performance.
Indeed, choose the Performance Edition and the Mach-E will hit 60 miles per hour faster than a Porsche 911 GTS, offering at least 300 miles on a single charge, which is comparable to the new Tesla Model Y crossover. Available from $43,000 in the US later this year, the Mach-E sports a signature Mustang design and is sure to be a popular choice.
Hummer, known for its gas-guzzling SUVs, has made a turnaround and enters into the all-electric sphere this year with the release of two EVs: an SUV and a pickup truck. Both will be sold with up to three motors, offering up to 1,000 horsepower, and a 400-mile range. As well as removable roof panels and quick charging options, they boast impressive off-road capabilities, with production kicking off early this year. The Hummer EV Edition 1 will be available from $112,000 this fall, whilst an EV 3X will follow in fall 2022 priced at $99,995.
King of the EVs Tesla looks set to make waves this year, finally releasing its futuristic space machine known as the Cybertruck. The vehicle is clad in dent-proof stainless steel, inspired by Elon Musk’s desire to create a “really tough, not fake-tough” vehicle for all use cases. After several prototypes, including a video of that infamous steel ball that hurtled through its “armor glass” windows, the device will enter into production later this month, offering 500 miles of range and starting from just $39,000 with one motor, and $69,900 with three motors. One of the reasons why the Cybertruck will be so successful when it enters the market, not only because of its truly striking design, is because of its production cost savings which allow the company to market the vehicle at a truly aggressive price, outmaneuvering its competitors.
Other cars to make the list include the five-seater Polestar 2, the second EV from Volvo’s new performance arm, offering forward-thinking design elements such as frameless mirrors and a vegan leather interior fabric that offers similar durability to a wetsuit, priced at $59,000, whilst the stunning Nissan Ariya will make its entrance later this year, offering a more stylish take on emission-free transportation. a whole decade after the launch of the Nissan Leaf EV, which single-handedly powered the sector and fueled real innovation.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC is also sure to turn heads, a 402-horsepower machine which sends the EV to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds, and the Volkswagen ID.4, which brings back the “flower power” of the 60s offering 250 miles on a single charge for $40,000.
That’s without mentioning the Audi e-Tron, 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, or Sony Vision S prototype which will be unveiled this year. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQS is designed to take on the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and next-generation Jaguar XJ, whilst the 2021 Lucid Air has been described as the ‘world’s most powerful and efficient electric sedan’. We must, of course, not forget the Faraday Future FF91, the company’s flagship model, offering a modular electric vehicle experience with up to an impressive 1050 horsepower.
