In a new interview with The Telegraph, Dion Weisler, chief executive of the recently separated hardware arm of Silicon Valley stalwart Hewlett-Packard, has emphasized the need for HP to start innovating again.
Days after HP announced what it claims to be the world’s thinnest laptop, the beautifully gold-trimmed HP Spectre profiled in the video below, Weisler was reported to have observed that “top surfers … look up the weather, to try to determine through the data available where the next big Wednesday will fall”, adding: “That’s what we have to do. We have to get into the category creation business.”

However, despite the Spectre’s entry into a notebook market that, last year, saw Apple buck the trend of decline, Weisler distanced his company from its Cupertino rival. He insisted: “Apple’s strategy is Apple’s strategy, but we are a brand for all people, including at the premium end”.
That wasn’t to say, however, that he doesn’t keep a close eye on Apple. In response to a question about whether he was enjoying the Apple Watch he was wearing, Weisler admitted: “I like to deeply understand all our competitor’s products, I like to take what’s great and see if we can make it better.”
