iOS 9 to Include News App for iPhone and iPad

When iOS 9 is launched in the fall, users of iPhones and iPads running this release will be able to benefit from what Apple has called “the best news reading experience on any mobile device”. That’s because these users’ devices will have the News app, an entirely new app that is intended to match the customization of digital news with the visual appeal of a magazine.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, told a crowd at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco that “News seamlessly delivers the articles you want to read in a beautiful and uncluttered format”. He added that the app will, from launch, already be able to draw content from almost 20 publishers representing over 50 titles, among them Time Inc., CNN, Bloomberg, The New York Times, ESPN and Condé Nast.

The News app pledges a truly personalized news reading experience. Through a single newsfeed called For You, a reader can immediately see all of the stories that they are interested in, and even receive further story suggestions – based on what content they have previously read – through a feature called Explore. The app becomes more personalized the more that news stories are read using it.
