The high popularity of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus helped Apple to grow its share of the US smartphone market by an impressive 5.2% during 2016’s third quarter, new data shows.
This data, from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, indicates that the US market share for iOS therefore rose to 34.2%. In the same period, Android’s share fell by a 3.3 percentage point, from 66.7% to 63.4%. In September, the iPhone 7 series was responsible for 17.1% of US smartphone sales.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have clearly made a big splash – and likely in more ways than one, given that a water resistant design is among the most appealing new features. The above-pictured Plus model is also notable for its inclusion of a dual-lens camera allowing for the recently launched Portrait mode.
These figures are especially encouraging for Apple considering that, with the iPhone 7 series having been released only towards the end of the third quarter, it should actually be in the current, holiday quarter that the handsets make their full impact in terms of sales.
