The secretive and relatively young automaker Faraday Future has revealed a partnership with the South Korean firm LG Chem, which will provide lithium-ion batteries for Faraday’s future vehicles.
In a press release, the two companies have also thrown the veil off “the world’s highest energy density for a production automotive battery”, a result of collaborative work on EV battery technology. The new cells will make it into Faraday Future’s VPA platform.
This variable platform architecture platform is a modular platform that can be extended to account for the requirements of different types of vehicles, making it crucial to Faraday’s plans in the electric automobile space. It also hints that Faraday could soon reveal its first vehicle for the mainstream market.
So far, the only electric vehicle that the company has publicly shown off is the concept supercar FFZERO1, which appeared at the Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show in January. However, Faraday’s decision to announce its partnership with a battery maker that already supplies to over 20 international automakers suggests that Faraday could be about to reveal a vehicle that will have much greater mass appeal.
