Microsoft has continued the gradual rollout of HoloLens by making the mixed reality headset available for preorder in Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom from today.
The Redmond company broke the news on the official Windows blog today, calling HoloLens “the world’s first and still only, self-contained holographic computer” and noting that there are now over 80 exclusive mixed reality apps in the Windows Store.
HoloLens is already available in the US for $3,000, and pricing for the newly announced markets will largely match that in the US, based on currency conversion. HoloLens is now available for purchase or preorder from the Microsoft Store in these territories, though the headset remains primarily targeted at developers and corporate customers.
HoloLens, which will start shipping in its new markets in late November, draws heavily on virtual reality and augmented reality. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently hailed the latter as especially promising; however, when Apple will unveil its own competitor to HoloLens, if ever, remains to be seen.
