Apple executive Phil Schiller has told The Independent that the new and revamped MacBook Pro announced last week has seen more orders via Apple’s online store than any earlier pro notebook.
The new MacBook Pro is available in 13- and 15-inch sizes, with higher-end models also notably featuring a new dynamic Touch Bar in place of physical function keys. The Touch Bar can show contextual functions and commands depending on what app is in use at the time.
It is unclear whether, in referring to the new notebooks’ record orders, Schiller meant that the new MacBook Pro had already attracted the most orders in absolute numbers, or simply that it had outpaced the number of orders amassed by its predecessors during the same initial number of days post-launch.
In either case, however, Schiller’s full interview with The Independent makes a fascinating read, and takes in other subjects including the rationale behind the Touch Bar, the 3.5mm headphone jack’s continued presence on the new MacBook Pro, and the public’s response to the new machine.
