Given the huge popularity of the games and the cutesy of their characters, all but the bird-brained – heh! – surely could have predicted an Angry Birds movie before it was announced in 2012. After a lengthy production period, Sony Pictures has just released an official teaser trailer for the movie.
The new trailer is as colorful and silly as you would expect, and gives us a closer look at the main characters, which will include the Jason Sudeikis-voiced Red, the fast-paced Chuck brought to vocal life by Josh Gad, and Bomb – Danny McBride’s providing the voice for him.
Other members of the cast include Bill Hader, who recently made an amusing appearance in the first iPhone 6S screen commercial, as one of the antagonistic green pigs and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle.
Judging from the explosion in early downloads for Angry Birds 2 at its launch this summer, the franchise still has plenty of fans even six years after the first game was released on iOS. That should ensure generous audience sizes for the film when it arrives in US theaters on July 1 next year.
