Apple delivers once again, announcing the release of a new iMac Pro at the 2017 Worldwide Developers Centre Apple, available in stores in December.
Apple’s most powerful computer yet
The new iMac, available in space gray, unsurprisingly has no shortage of new features, revealed by Apple earlier this month. In case you missed the announcement, here’s some of the highlights:
- Up to 4TB SSD
- Radeon Pro Vega graphics
- Xeon processors
- New thermal architecture
The iMac Pro won’t be dissimilar to the standard iMac. It will certainly look similar but it will have 80% more cooling capacity and 75% more airflow. This is because it will have 500 watts of power, 67% more than the standard iMac.
The new desktop will be 43% brighter than previous iMac’s, with over 14.7 million pixels and a 500 nit brightness level.
Rumor has it…
However, rumors have began to emerge outlining even more new specs. Supposedly the iMac Pro will be powered by Intel’s Skylake-EX and Skylake-EP processors. The new device will not use Intel’s desktop-class LGA2066 socket, but will use Intel’s server-class LGA3647 socket.
The same report goes on to suggest the iMac Pro will have an added layer of security. It suggests it will have an ARM coprocessor, much like the MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar. This would allow the computer to support Touch ID. This feature was not mentioned by Apple in the announcement of the product.
The announcement of these features does not come directly from Apple itself but from Pike’s Universum. The reliability of this report is somewhat questionable as the site revealed some of the iMac Pro’s specs, two months before the announcement and much of this information proved to be inaccurate.
Only time will tell if these rumors prove to be true when the produce is released in December, starting at $4,999.
