Samsung and LG “Burying the Hatchet”

Samsung and LG have agreed to try and end a long-term legal battle. However, prosecutors will have the last word on how the issues will be resolved. Both companies said they would withdraw legal complaints made against each other whilst asking for leniency in ongoing claims.

Both companies have been at war for some time. LG have been accused of damaging Samsung washing machines. Samsung employees have been charged with stealing organic light-emitting diodes display panel tech from LG.

The friction between the two companies escalated after Samsung said its washing machines were damaged by LG executives before a trade fare. LG claimed that the damage was accidental and linked it to poor manufacturing standards. When a video was obtained, Samsung said the video had been edited to portray their rivals in a positive light.

Other issues the two companies have argued about include the air-conditioning market and refrigerator capacity. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ office refused to comment on the case against LG, with the Suwon District Prosecutors’ office remaining tight-lipped on the Samsung case.

Samsung’s Mobile division is said to be spending a record amount on promoting the new S6 handset over in the UK.
