Reports suggest that Samsung are planning on spending almost $68 million promoting their new Galaxy S6 over in the UK. The news comes after the company experienced a tough year, with their S5 failing to reach the targets they had laid out for the handset. It’s said that the figure is the largest ever spent on launching a phone as well as the most ever spent on advertising any product in the UK. It’s not known whether the company will invest a similar amount on promoting the phone in the US.
The phone will be advertised on London Underground’s digital billboards and in a series of various high-profile locations. The figure of £45 million represents a 20% increase on the amount spent on advertising the S5. The new metal handsets are due to go on sale in the next few weeks. Leading research firm Gartner said that Apple overtook Samsung as the largest smartphone maker in the world as 2014 came to a close. The new advertising campaign is being seen as an attempt to become the globe’s number one smartphone maker once again.
The S6 and S6 Edge were both unveiled at the recent Mobile World Congress, with rumours suggesting that some models could cost over $1,000.
