Sonic The Hedgehog Arrives on Apple TV, Sequels on the Way

If you have happy childhood memories of playing Sonic The Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis console in the 1990s, you can now rekindle those memories by playing the game on Apple TV.

The classic runner, which launched the super-speedy blue blur as a global superstar over two decades ago, was actually ported to iOS in 2013; however, with the fourth generation Apple TV rather akin to a traditional games console, you can now enjoy a more authentic retro playing experience.

MacRumors reports that the new Apple TV version is basically the remastered iOS version, but specially optimized for the Cupertino company’s home hub. It is also compatible with the Siri Remote introduced with the fourth generation Apple TV last fall.

On tvOS, Sonic The Hedgehog will also be followed by Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on March 24 and Sonic CD on March 31. The first game can now be downloaded from the tvOS App Store for $2.99, and we would expect the two follow-ups to get the same pricing. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see further classic Sonic adventures arrive on Apple TV if these first few ports prove popular.
