Tech giants Sony and Microsoft have launched new mid-range smartphones at the Mobile World Congress, which is being held in Barcelona this year. Microsoft plans to launch a new flagship phone after the release of Windows 10, despite not releasing a new high-end phone for almost a year. Sony released their flagship Xperia Z3 last September. Both companies have traditionally refreshed their top models every six months until now.
Sony told the Congress that it was currently concentrating on ābroadening its customer baseā. Experts say the decision not to launch flagship phones at the moment could be linked to the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S6, which has been branded a āproject zeroā by the Korean tech giant and is said to mark a huge departure from the previous model.
Sonyās new mid-range M4 Aqua is waterproof, whilst Microsoftās Lumia 640 will allow users to fit two SIM cards simultaneously. It offers a bigger, higher-resolution screen than its predecessor, the Lumia 635. The Lumia 640 XL has a bigger screen than the regular model, with both devices coming with a one-year Microsoft Office 365 subscription. Users will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 after it is rolled out by Microsoft.
