Following Apple’s announcement of its financial results for the second quarter of 2024, CEO Tim Cook and CFO Luca Maestri engaged with investors to discuss future prospects, particularly the company’s strides in generative artificial intelligence (AI).

During the investor call, Cook expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024), hinting at significant advancements in Apple’s AI capabilities to be unveiled there.

Although he didn’t specifically mention AI updates for iOS 18, Cook emphasized Apple’s ongoing significant investments in generative AI.

He remarked, “We continue to feel very bullish about our opportunity in generative AI,” signaling robust confidence in this area. Apple’s generative AI projects, previously alluded to in earlier discussions, were highlighted with stronger assertions about the company’s distinctive advantages that might help them stand out in a competitive market.

Particularly, Cook pointed to the neural engine integrated within Apple Silicon and the company’s steadfast commitment to privacy as key differentiators.

He stated: “We believe in the transformative power and promise of AI, and we believe we have advantages that will differentiate us in this new era, including Apple’s unique combination of seamless hardware, software, and services integration, groundbreaking Apple Silicon with our industry-leading neural engines, and our unwavering focus on privacy, which underpins everything we create.”

Rumors suggest that Apple is gearing up to introduce various AI-driven features across its operating systems, likely to be previewed at WWDC. These features could include a chatbot, intelligent playlists for Apple Music, and a Safari browsing assistant capable of summarizing articles.

Additionally, while Apple is developing its own language model capable of functioning offline, it is reportedly also in talks with OpenAI and Google to incorporate their AI technologies into iOS 18.
