Twitter “Sucks” at Taking Action on Trolling, Admits Boss

Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo has said that his company “sucks” at dealing with abusive behavior. A leaked memo to staff featured Costolo admitting that cyber-bullying on Twitter was causing people to stop using the service. Costolo said that the company would be tougher on trolls in the future.

A number of celebrities have quit the service recently due to abuse, some of which has been venomous. The micro-blogging service’s boss said: “We suck at dealing with abuse and trolls on the platform and we’ve sucked at it for years…It’s no secret that the rest of the world talks about it every day. We lose core user after core user by not addressing simple trolling issues that they face every day.

In a blog post from last year, the company admitted that it still had a lot of work to do on cyber-bullying. The post said that Twitter was “nowhere near being done making changes in this area”.

Twitter says that forthcoming changes to the service will make it easier for users to report abusive behavior.
