Ubisoft are said to be developing a game designed to help users overcome Amblyopia – also known as “lazy eye”. The game, called Dig Rush, has been designed for use on tablets and aims to help users combat a condition that affects around one in 50 children. The condition often means that people can see more clearly out of one eye than the other. The company says that it hopes Dig Rush will be “more engaging and enjoyable” than alternative treatments.
The game is the results of work undertaken by researchers at Canada’s McGill University. Until now, Ubisoft have been associated with entertainment-themed games including Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance. Users will need to wear blue-red stereoscopic glasses to make the treatment effective. The announcement came at the same time as San Francisco’s Games Developers Conference.
The glasses are similar to those used to watch 3D movies. The game will force users to make use of their stronger and weaker eyes simultaneously. It’s hoped that repeated training will teach the brain to enhance the co-ordination of both eyes whilst improving their sense of depth. Doctors will be able to tweak game settings in order to suit individual needs.
Ubisoft was recently forced to apologise after various bugs were found in its games.
