Canalys reports that PC shipments in the US increased by 5%, with shipments (excluding tablets) reaching 14.8 million units in Q1 2024.
Key drivers were the consumer and small-to-medium business (SMB) segments, both seeing shipment increases of over 9% year-on-year.
Looking ahead, Canalys anticipates an 8% growth next year, fueled by two main factors.
First, new enterprise sales prompted by the end of support for Windows 10, which is driving a refresh cycle among small and medium businesses.
This transition is expected to spread to enterprise customers, keeping the market outlook positive.
Second, the increasing desire to leverage new AI capabilities is boosting sales of both PCs and Apple Silicon Macs.
The market is poised to embrace on-device AI features, with the US expected to lead in adopting AI-capable PCs.
Vendors and partners are focusing their efforts on upgrading customers to premium devices, anticipating significant opportunities in the AI domain.
Mac shipments in the US grew from 1.7 million units in Q1 2023 to 2.1 million units in Q1 2024, marking a 22% year-on-year increase and securing Apple a 14.2% share of the US PC market.
The introduction of the new M3-powered MacBook Air models in March was a major contributor to this growth.
Additionally, upcoming Apple Intelligence features, which will require Apple Silicon machines, are expected to prompt Intel Mac users to upgrade, further driving growth in the near future.
