The well-received Xbox One S has been given a firmware update enabling it to support the recordable Blu-ray formats BD-R and BD-RE, a neat new feature for an already appealing console.
It was yesterday that Microsoft executive Mike Ybarra took to Twitter to announce these impending new features, and the update has since been released, reports Trusted Reviews. What this basically means is that Xbox One S users can now use the console to play recorded Blu-rays.
For those asking… yes, Xbox One S will support BD-R and BD-RE. App update should happen today. #Xbox

BD-R and BD-RE refer to, respectively, writable and rewritable Blu-ray discs that, like the DVD-R and DVD-RE disks of times gone, can be burned or written on, making them thoroughly modern formats for storing video content.
The Xbox One S was released in August as a redesigned, slimmer version of the Xbox One console that arrived in 2013. Upon its release, the Xbox One S was generally deemed by critics to have addressed many of the earlier console’s faults; however, with Sony’s PlayStation 4 having built up a huge sales lead over the Microsoft alternative, it seemed a case of too little, too late.
