When not playing basketball with the Los Angeles Clippers, Chris Paul is watching games via his many, many devices.
He has his full-size iPad connected to his Slingbox back home to watch games, and an iPad Mini to catch movies. He’s watching games on his iPhone via the Slingbox and the NBA League Pass app when being driven to the games. And if basketball’s not on — no problem. He has two iPods to keep him busy with music.
If there’s a way to watch basketball via devices and TVs, you better believe the Clipper guard — best known as CP3 (he’s @cp3 on Twitter) — has got it. Paul sat down with us recently at the Clippers’ training facility here to talk tech.
TV SETS
There are seven TVs in his Los Angeles home. “In my mancave there are four TVs, because I like to watch all the basketball games. Outside on the porch, we have a TV. In my bathroom, in my tub, there’s a TV. … Games are always on.” The mancave has one big 60-inch set and three smaller ones. One of the sets is connected to a Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii gaming system (his son likes to play the Madden NFL Football and NBA2K14 video games.) “I’m watching and he’s playing.”
TRAVELING GEAR
Paul has a big bag stocked with a 15-inch MacBook Pro, full-size iPad and iPad Mini, two iPods and lots of chargers. “I need to get (the iPods) down to one, but one of them has 35,000 songs on it, all the music you could probably imagine, and the other one just gospel music.”
He has two iPads because the big one gets filled with footage of Clippers games for him to watch afterward. The Mini he uses to watch TV and movies.
SLINGBOX AND IPHONE
He connects to the iPhone en route to the games to watch, usually via the Slingbox. “It looks great to me. I can see it clearly, and that’s what i want to do, is watch the game.”
His Slingbox trick: If you change the channel on your mobile device, it changes the channel back home, and could ruin the experience for someone at home. So he installed his Slingbox to a TV in his 1-year-old daughter’s bedroom. “She’s 1 — she shouldn’t care if I turn on the TV.”
APPS
Beyond NBA League Pass, he also likes:
–Candy Crush Saga (free; Apple, Android). “That has consumed not only my life but my wife’s.”
–CBS Fantasy Football (free; Apple, Android, BlackBerry). “It’s the best app during football season … how I track my league and everything that’s going on.”
PHONE CHARGERS
“My biggest pet peeve — if I leave to go on the road and forget a charger. People think you worry about clothes … no. When you leave the house, I check my book bag. It’s all these different chargers.”
