Honeywell Reveals New HomeKit-Enabled Lyric Round Thermostat

Honeywell has announced its second generation Lyric Round Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat. It is also the company’s first device that is compatible with Apple’s smart home framework HomeKit.

This new thermostat, as reported by MacRumors, takes the design of the first generation version, including its round body and glass face indicating both the current temperature and target temperature. The new model can also be controlled from an iOS device – either in the home or remotely.

Especially excitingly, its HomeKit compatibility means that it can both interface with other HomeKit-ready products and respond to voice commands issued to Siri on an iOS device. HomeKit, first announced in June 2014, allows various home systems and appliances within the same residence to be easily controlled from a single iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

From today, the new Lyric Round thermostat can be preordered through Honeywell’s website. The product is priced at $249.99 and expected to start shipping by the end of January.
