iPhone 16 Pro Max to Feature Enhanced 48MP Cameras Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max will introduce a larger main camera sensor, and for the first time, both iPhone 16 Pro models will include a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, according to recent reports from Asia.

A Weibo user, OvO Baby Sauce OvO, revealed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s main camera will feature an advanced custom 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro will utilize the 48-megapixel custom Sony IMX803 sensor, which is the same as in the current iPhone 15 Pro models.

The leaker also mentioned that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera.

This improvement aims to capture more light, enhancing photo quality, especially in low-light conditions when using the 0.5x mode. The Ultra Wide lens on the iPhone 15 Pro models is currently 12 megapixels.

This is not the first time such rumors have surfaced about the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s main camera sensor. Earlier this year, “Digital Chat Station”, another Weibo user known for accurately leaking details about upcoming iPhone camera technologies, made similar claims.

They mentioned that the Sony IMX903 sensor in the iPhone 16 Pro Max would feature advanced capabilities such as a stacked design for enhanced performance, a 14-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for superior image data conversion, and Digital Gain Control (DCG) for improved dynamic range and noise reduction.

Previous rumors also suggested that both iPhone 16 Pro models would feature a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera.

This information first emerged last December from Weibo user “Instant Digital”, hinting that this year’s Pro models will be the first to have two 48-megapixel sensors. This upgrade would enable both iPhone 16 Pro models to shoot 48-megapixel ProRAW photos in Ultra Wide mode.

The latest report supports these earlier rumors and aligns with a 2023 forecast from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who predicted that the iPhone 16 Pro would include a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera.

Looking ahead, the iPhone 17 Pro, expected in 2025, will likely complete the transition to 48-megapixel sensors for the entire rear camera array, including the Telephoto lens, which currently stands at 12 megapixels in the iPhone 15 Pro models.

The iPhone 16 series is anticipated to launch around mid-September this year.
