Netflix will support Spatial Audio in a future iOS update.
The company confirmed that it would introduce more immersive sound experiences on iPads and iPhones, adding that support is already beginning to roll out to iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 devices in some regions.
Users can turn on Spatial Audio when watching Netflix on their device by heading to the Control Center, but they’ll need AirPods Pro or AirPods Max to feel the full effects of the new feature.
Apple launched Spatial Audio earlier in the year to create an “immersive sound experience” through Apple Music, and since its launch, the technology has been adopted by third parties wanting to offer consumers more value.
Speaking of the launch of the feature, Apple said: “Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience.
“Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone, spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to your device even as your head moves.”
Apple will enhance Spatial Audio in iOS 15 with a new Spatialize Stereo option.
Netflix has said the rollout of the new feature will be slow, so if you don’t see the option on your device just yet, check back soon and make sure you’ve updated your app to the latest version.
