Now, Pokémon is known for its expansive fictional universe which includes an anime series, animated and live-action movies, video games, trading cards, and a lot of other merchandise. Now, in recent years, the franchise has also released several web series on YouTube, which further explored the mythos of the world of Pokémon. The most recent iteration, Pokémon Evolutions, has just released its first episode, which you can check out.
Pokémon Evolutions actually recounts the climactic ending of the Pokémon Sword and Shield video games and comes at a time when the franchise is outing a lot of new material. Pokémon Evolutions is going to be free-to-watch during its run, but the next season of the long-running Pokémon anime series, as well as the new movie, Pokémon: The Secret of the Jungle, will require a Netflix subscription if you want to watch them in the United States immediately.
Pokémon Evolutions is actually part of The Pokémon Company’s celebration of the 25th anniversary of the franchise’s initial appearance as a video game. The series began with the release of Pocket Monsters: Red and Green versions for the original Game Boy back in 1996, and the rest quickly became history.
Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, and the games’ original developer, Game Freak, are likewise celebrating the anniversary with the release of a series of new video games: the long-awaited sequel New Pokémon Snap and the competitive online multi-player game Pokémon Unite have already been released earlier this year, while the DS remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which will keep a lot of the original mechanics but also expand on the original games, are scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch in November.
Another game for the Switch is going to miss the anniversary year, but not by much; namely, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be released next January. The game is going to be the next major evolution for the successful video game brand and features new battle mechanics and a brand new, open-world for players to explore, something that gamers could not experience before.
