Just after the roll out of 280 character tweets late last month, Twitter is now reportedly working on a feature that will allow users to bookmark tweets for later.
The company’s product manager Jesar Shar revealed the new feature, which will be known as “Save for Later”, yesterday evening and noted that it is something that has been highly requested for some time, particularly by users in Japan.
It seems as though many users are now bookmarking tweets instead of liking or retweeting them as they may not want to alert the original user but third-party bookmarking services such as Pocket require more effort. This new Twitter feature should be an easier alternative while maintaining user privacy.
Twitter’s mobile site shows a prototype of Save for Later, featuring an overflow icon in lieu of the DM button in the main feed. Now, a panel pops up with the new “Add to Bookmarks” button alongside the regular “Share via DM” button.
When you’ve saved a tweet, a bar appears with the option to “View Bookmarks” but there will also be a new Bookmarks section in the app’s main menu that shows your list of saves.
As it is in its early stages, Twitter is monitoring feedback on designs and experiments via the #SaveForLater hashtag.
